Principal's Message

Mrs. Arbuckle
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! This is a very exciting time! Everyone at PHIS is looking forward to the start of the school year—welcoming new faces and seeing familiar ones!

Every student is important at the Pleasant Hill Intermediate School--Every Student, Every Day! As a staff we are dedicated to meeting the needs of our fifth and sixth grade students.  It is our goal to help students reach beyond the obvious while giving each one the support they need to be successful in meeting that challenge.

At Pleasant Hill Intermediate, each grade level is divided into two teams.  These teams create learning communities that help the students feel more comfortable at school while beginning to form positive relationships with many different students and school staff members.

Staff and teams have changed only slightly from the previous year. Team members are as follows:
Team 5A                        Team 5B                                   Team 6A                      Team 6B
Mrs. Myers                    Mrs. DeMoure-Umscheid          Mr. Clawson                 Mrs. Faulk

School Hours:
Morning Motivator:  8:15 a.m.
1st Class:  8:25 a.m.
Bus Dismissal: 3:22 p.m.
Car Rider Dismissal: 3:27 p.m.
Walkers/Bike Riders will be dismissed after all car riders have been picked up.

Drop off Information:
All students riding the bus will be dropped off on the west side of the building. Should your child be transported to school by any other means of transportation, he/she needs to be dropped off on the east side of the building. Students should not arrive to school prior to 7:55 a.m. unless they are under direct supervision of a teacher. If your student arrives after 8:25 a.m., you must accompany your student into the building and sign him/her in for the day.

Breakfast is served at 7:55 a.m.

Dismissal Information:
Bus riders are dismissed at 3:22 on the west side of the building. Car riders are dismissed at 3:27 on the east side of the school. Please pull forward in the car pick up lane. Due to safety, students must wait for their turn in this area only; students will not be allowed to walk down the sidewalk or across the parking lot to enter cars. An alternative pick up approach would be meeting your child at the main entrance door and walking him/her to your car. We ask that you park in a location that does not require you to cross in front of cars as they are exiting the parking lot. Please also note that our driveway is one way. We appreciate your help with these procedures. Safety is of utmost importance!

Summer Reading Challenge:
Don’t forget about our summer reading challenge! Did you know the average student loses about one month's worth of learning in math, spelling, and reading over the summer? PHIS has challenged students to read and complete activities over the summer in order to continue learning, perfecting skills, and to have fun! Students need to bring their completed reading packet to school by August 23rd; packets go to PHIS librarian, Mrs. Arenson.

Morning Motivator:
At PHIS, the entire building starts the day in the gym at 8:15. It is a mini assembly in which we come together as a school family to foster relationships, build a sense of community, share information, and start our day in a constructive manner. During this time we do a variety of things including, but not limited to, saying the Pledge of Allegiance, citing our school vision statement, sharing the school lunch menu, celebrating successes/achievements, celebrating birthdays, and making daily announcements. It is an important part of our day and helps get students and staff’s day off to a positive start!

Enrollment/Proof of Residency Event:
Enrollment/Proof of Residency Event will take place July 31st (A-K) and August 1st (L-Z) from 1-7pm at the high school. This is an opportunity to complete all back-to-school business at one time and in one place. During that time you will prove residency, pick up your child’s schedule, purchase a yearbook (optional), and much more. You should have received emails from the District about on-line registration. We will not send a packet to your home address that contains forms and letters—please look for the email which will direct you to completing all forms on-line. If for some reason you miss Enrollment/Proof of Residency Event, you must go to Central Office at 318 Cedar to prove residency. Once you have proven residency, please stop by the Intermediate school during normal business hours to pick up your child’s schedule and take care of any necessary purchases. We ask that these items be taken care of prior to Open House/Meet the Teacher Night.

Open House/Meet the Teacher:
Open House/Meet the Teacher takes place Tuesday, August 13 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Please stop by any time during these hours to meet teachers, find classrooms/tour the building, and place school supplies in your child’s locker.

Please feel free to investigate the Pleasant Hill Intermediate School Website to learn more about our school and staff members. More updates concerning clubs, newsletters and such will be coming soon.

We are glad that your child is a part of the Pleasant Hill Intermediate School family; we are looking forward to a great school year!
